We’ve delivered hundreds of virtual demos during the last few weeks and months and one of the common themes is that financial advice is being delivered in a very different way. The coronavirus pandemic, and subsequent social distancing measures, mean face-to-face meetings are few and far between. Now that doesn’t matter so much when you’re dealing with existing clients. The relationship and trust has already been built and so it’s easier to work together remotely. Regular financial reviews can carry on as normal and the level of service remains the same. I'm not surprised that the advisory community is finding it more difficult to acquire new clients. Face-to-face communication is a big part of our sector and always will be. But I’m encouraged to find so many advisers taking advantage of some unexpected free time – time when they might have been out and about meeting clients – to embrace new technology. I think everyone realises it’s hugely important to keep up with new industry trends and maximise efficiencies by using the latest digital technologies. Nobody wants to get left behind. But until now, time has been of the essence. It may have been that back-to-back meetings and travel time has eaten into the time available to reassess your firm’s use of technology.
